The authors report photoreflectance (PR) measurements on .gamma.-InSe in the spectral range from 1.1 to 3 eV at room temp. and pressures up to 8 GPa. Up to four well resolved structures are obsd. in the PR spectra corresponding to direct interband transitions in InSe. The energy of the lowest optical transition exhibits a strong nonlinear dependence on pressure. For the assignment of the obsd. transitions LMTO band structure calcns. within the local d. approxn. were performed. The nonlinear behavior of the lowest transition energy is well reproduced by the LMTO calcns.
