DV-FKF PC-Support
Diese Seite auf Deutsch.Institute guideline approved by the board of Directors 7.4.2000
In a meeting on March 15th, 2000, the group IT administrators and the members of the IT support group ("DV-FKF") agreed upon a new concept for PC hard- and software support:
- Every 3 months, DV-FKF will publish a definition of a state-of-the-art PC, based on the latest developments in technology and on the market situation.
- The state-of-the-art PCs will be preinstalled by DV-FKF and integrated into the institute's local area network. The software preinstallation options are listed below; they will be updated in agreement with the group IT administrators. To ensure proper licensing, th DV-FKF group will bear the licensing costs until further notice.
- PCs for special requirements (e.g. CAD) which differ from the state-of-the-art PC can be bought after consultation with DV-FKF. PCs which are part of an experimental setup (e.g. a diffractometer controller) will not be subjected to the regulation. However, we recommend to conclude a service contract for such PCs with your supplier.
- Software used frequently and institute-wide will be distributed increasingly through campus licenses and a centralized PC software server.
- Application support beyond the services listed above is limited to providing information in the intranet and established discussion fora for the users. Open questions will be discussed between DV-FKF and the group IT administrators. Direct user requests to DV-FKF should be limited to emergency situations only.
- Any PC purchased after May 1st, 2000, which differs from the state-of-the-art at the time of purchase will be excluded from hard- and software support, unless approved by DV-FKF in advance.
