CAS Databases

Access to CAS databases will be available from Dec. 2004 using SciFinder. You can subscribe for a SciFinder Licence.

In addition to SciFinder you may use the web interface STNEasy for searching chemistry databases of CAS.

STN Databases

Beilstein, Gmelin

MPG scientists have no longer access to the Beilstein/Gmelin databases (Sept. 2009).

There was a legal conflict with the Beilstein brand and the database does no longer exist. Elsevier offers a the new database called Reaxys, which is streamlined to Retrosynthesis and should include all data from Beilstein and Gmelin.

Please note that there is no MPG licence for Reaxys!

Please use instead the CAS databases, e.g. Scifinder or CAS/STN.

Thomson ISI Databases (Web of Knowledge, WoK)

WoK Databases are IP-protected and can only be accessed from a valid domain within the Max Planck Society. Please contact IVS-CPT if you have any problems connecting to the service.

• JabRef
  is a free graphical frontend to manage BibTeX databases, the standard LaTeX bibliography reference format. JabRef is written in JAVA and therefore platform independant.
  It imports various formats e.g. ISI, OVID, SciFinder and can look up directly Medline and CiteSeer

OVID MPG-Server

Access Information:
Employees and guests of the Max Planck Society may access the MPG/Ovid Database Server by using either a personal login or an institutional login:

• Personal Login: For full functionality and access from any location worldwide, a valid user ID and password is required. Please use the online application form. To change your password, see MPG/Ovid FAQ.
  Please note: By using the personal login you will be able to save your search strategies or set up customized "AutoAlerts". For your own benefit and to protect against unauthorized usage, we strongly recommend not to share your user ID and password with others.
   
  
• Institutional Login: This mode of access allows you to enter without a user ID or password, but only if you are currently at an authorized site of the Max Planck Society (IP protection).
  Please note: The institutional login will not allow certain user-specific functions such as saving searches over longer periods or setting up "AutoAlerts".

NMR Shift Database

Access Information:
NMRShiftDB is a web database for organic structures and their nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) spectra. It allows for spectrum prediction (currently only for carbon) as well as for searching spectra, structures and other properties. Last not least, it features peer-reviewed submission of datasets by its users. The NMRShiftDB software is open source, the data is published under an open content license.

Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC)

Access Information:
Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) is a numerical crystallographic database for small organic molecules and proteins. CCDC does not offer a MPG-wide contract, only local licences are possible. There are licences at many MPG sites as well as in Stuttgart. Please contact the IVS-CPT for further information.
