Department MaierWe are always interested in talented and highly motivated chemists, physicists and material scientists with experimental or theoretical background for Ph.D. programs as well as post-doctoral appointments.
Ph.D. theses can be conducted in all research areas of the
department. Several topics are related to charge and mass transport in
ionic solids with emphasis on the effects of interfaces (e.g. grain
boundaries and solid/solid interfaces) on the conduction properties.
Further subjects deal with chemical surface kinetics of ionic solids.
Here, the mechanistic understanding of diffusion processes in and
surface reactions on nano-, poly-, and single-cystalline ceramics is of
particular interest. Though mainly focussed on fundamental science, many
topics are directly related to technically relevant problems in fuel
cell, sensor, and electroceramic materials research.
Depending on the particular project a variety of techniques would be
applied such as impedance spectroscopy, conductivity relaxation, optical
in-situ spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, X-ray diffraction, SEM, AFM,
mass spectrometry, NMR, ESR as well as molecular dynamic simulations and
finite elements calculations.
All chemists, physicists, and materials scientists with excellent
experimental and / or theoretical abilities are encouraged to apply.
Postdoc-positions on several
research areas of the department are also available.
