Curriculum vitae

Markus Lippitz was born in 1972. He studied physics in Marburg (Germany) and Milan (Italy). Through his diploma thesis about near-field microscopy he became interested in single-molecule spectroscopy. In 1998 he moved to Mainz (Germany) to the group of Prof. Thomas Basche where he received his Ph.D. in 2002 for a thesis on two-photon excitation of tryptophans in single protein molecules. From 2002 to 2005, he has worked as Marie Curie Fellow in the MoNOS group of Prof. Michel Orrit (Leiden, The Netherlands). During this time, he established the ultrafast spectroscopy of single nanoparticles in the MoNOS group. He spend another PostDoc in the group of Prof. Thomas Basche in Mainz, working on spectroscopy of single gold and semiconductor nanocrystals. Since December 2006 he is appointed as Juniorprofessor at the 4. Physics Institute of the University of Stuttgart and leading a Junior Research Group at the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research.

His main research interest is in nonlinear optics with single nanoobjects and statistical analysis of photon streams of single emitters.
